Since
1998, CrossRoad Church has been involved in sending
medical mission teams to various parts of Costa Rica.
One of our members, Dr. Dean Lohse, a neurosurgeon
here in Jacksonville has led several teams to provide
medical services for the Bribri Indians in the Talamanca
Reserve of remote Southeastern Costa Rica.
This
Humanitarian/Medical outreach requires the highest
level of commitment, because it consists of much more
than flying into the host country and setting up a
clinic. It takes several hours by road, two hours
by canoe; plus a seven hour hike during the dry season
to reach the Talamanca Reserve. The natives that this
team will serve have no other access to medical care.
Not
only is this a wonderful service to the Bribri who
receive treatment (many of whom have never before
seen a physician), the team also benefits from just
being a part of this outreach of mercy.
