Would you like to love and serve those in our community around us? We are continually involved in outreach efforts with ministries and organizations in our area. On this page, we will be posting opportunities for you to get involved on a regular basis. Be sure to check here often for the latest on how you can serve others outside our walls with God’s love!
On Sunday mornings, a team from CrossRoad goes to the Silver Creek neighborhood to pick up kids and bring them here for church. These refugee children love being here so much, we need more drivers to bring all the kids who want to come! The kids are here during the 9:00am service and stay for a quick meal before we take them back home.
We participate in a variety of outreach projects to benefit Windy Hill Elementary School, and the Food Pantry is an ongoing effort. About 70% of the kids at Windy Hill are on the free or reduced lunch program. Through our Food Pantry, we send backpacks of food home every other Friday with some of the kids who might not have much food to eat over the weekend. The Food Pantry also helps provide food for the kids and their families over spring break and other holiday breaks during the year.
Last fall during our Month of Compassion, the Windy Hill Elementary Principal, Sharon Sanders, came to speak to us about the kids at Windy Hill. She shared about the tough life situations and challenges that some of the kids face. She told us about a new mentoring program that was beginning at Windy Hill, and invited our congregation to participate. We now have over 30 CrossRoad members volunteering as mentors to children at Windy Hill!
If your small group is interested in adopting a teacher and a classroom please call Windy Hill at 565-2700 and ask for Robin. The small group would check in monthly with the teacher to see what the class needs, it might be goodies for the classroom treasure box, or maybe doing a holiday party for the class, it may be doing something nice for the teacher.
Windy Hill just received a grant to do a school garden and needs a team of worker bees to help with the project. Windy Hill needs some touch up painting, minor repairs (door stoppers, door thresholds etc.) If you are interested in gardening or doing handy work, please call Robin at Windy Hill at 565-2700.
If anyone is interested in helping parents or putting on workshops for families, please contact Scott Crawford at scott@crcumc.org.
